"THE KIDS COME TO US WITH BAGS WE HAVE NOT PACKED."
- veteran adoptive parent
Adoptive and permanency planning parents, especially those who are raising children who have experienced significant loss and trauma, are often at loss as to how to deal with the complex challenges and behaviours presented by their children. Since 2013, ACO has offered adoptive and permanency planning parents a safe venue in which to do the following: share their experiences, reflect, problem solve and gain invaluable support from others going through similar experiences. A 10-session, closed group, CTS is facilitated by adoption-competent, trauma-informed social workers and counsellors.
They are modelled on a program called "Changing the Script: Relationship is the Key" ©

PASS provides a variety of counselling, education, support and advocacy services to all members of the adoption and permanency planning constellation (i.e., birth family members, permanency and adoptive family members, child who joined family by adoption/permanency planning, adult adopted individual), across the lifespan, pre and post-placement. Consultation, education and support are also available to community partners including but not restricted mental health practitioners, adoption and guardianship workers, and lawyers (i.e., OCL).
Consultations are available by telephone and email.
The Youth Network gives eligible and interested adopted youth between the ages 14-25 years opportunities to connect with others and provide a platform for messages they wish to share with the community. Recently, PASS has been coaching and mentoring interested adopted youth on how to start support groups in their own communities, offering ongoing information and support, as needed, once these groups are established.
If you are interested in attending a Youth Network meeting, or starting a group in your area please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 416-482-0021 ex. 2888. For more information on the Youth Network, click here.
The Permanency and Adoption Support Services (PASS) Team offers support and assistance with reunion and reconnection and hosts a Search and Reunion Support Group typically on the last Monday of every month.
