Kids need families and families need support. Every dollar donated to the ACO goes to work on matching a permanent family for every child in foster care and ensuring families are supported throughout and after the adoption has taken place.
As we know, adoption is not an event, it is a lifelong journey. Parenting is difficult, even under ideal circumstances. Families of children through adoption need specialized support to ensure they can meet the needs of their children who have experienced trauma and loss. This support does not exist in many communities across Ontario in any predictable or sustainable way.
"Adoption is a joy - I wouldn't change my life, but it is not always easy, and the challenges we face as adoptive parents are very different than the experiences of birth families. It good to know the ACO's expertise is 'in my back pocket' against the day I need their services" - Parent through adoption & FunWalk participant.
Together we will be able to broaden our reach and impact, thus ensuring stability for thousands of vulnerable children each year in Ontario and across the country.
We have already helped nearly 1,000 children and families connect through our award-winning AdoptOntario Programs.

Permanency and Adoption Competency
For 27 years we have hosted educational programs on the most relevant, needs-based topics for families and professionals.
There are currently 4500 children without permanent families in the foster care system.
Although many youths beat the odds, most face a very difficult future. Within two to four years of leaving foster care many youths:
40% of young adults between 20 - 29 years old live with their parents. Most youth leaving foster care do not have this option and must navigate the world on their own. It is estimated that every year, 1000 youth age out of the care system in Ontario.
Adoption is a joy - I wouldn't change my life, but it is not always easy, and the challenges we face as adoptive parents are very different than the experiences of birth families.
