Pathways to Permanence 2 is a 24-hour specialized series of classes designed for foster and adoptive parents, kinship caregivers, and guardians who are parenting children who have experienced trauma and loss as a part of their history.

The course provides tools, techniques and information that empower participants to effectively parent their children.

Location: Children's Aid Society of The District of Thunder Bay - Spring Program Site - 1115 Yonge St., Thunder Bay, ON P7E 2T6

Time: Saturdays; 9:00am to 4:00pm

***A group meal will be provided at lunch.

Dates: 

  • Session 1 & 2: February 22, 2020
  • Session 3 & 4: February 23, 2020
  • Session 5 & 6: February 29, 2020
  • Session 7 & 8: March 1, 2020

    Judy is a mental health professional with over 40 years of experience specializing in adoption, child-in-care and special needs (i.e., grief, loss and trauma, FASD, etc.) issues. Before returning to Ontario in 2013, Judy had the privilege of providing adoption and mental services in BC's Lower Mainland and First Nations communities on Vancouver Island. Judy is an experienced trainer and has written adoption-related curricula for the Ministry of Children & Family Development in BC, including the curriculum for the mandatory pre-adoption training program for prospective adoptive parents. While working in the PASS Program at the ACO, Judy provided counselling and support services to all members of the adoption constellation, at all stages of the adoption process, as well as consultation to community partners. Currently in private practice, Judy provides counselling, consultation & training in adoption and child-in-care issues.

Who: This training is for parents and caregivers where a placement has already occurred. 

Cost: This course is being offered at NO cost to participants thanks to funding from the Ontario Ministry of Children and Youth Services.

Certificate: A certificate of completion will be provided.

Childcare: Child care will be provided to children 3 years of age and older. Childcare MUST be booked in advance; please include your childcare needs when you register.  The deadline to register for childcare is February 7, 2020.

Please note, Ontario's PRIDE curriculum is equivalent to The Kinship Center's Pathways to Permanence 1 curriculum.
