Education Day is an excellent opportunity for adoptive and pre-adoptive families, and the professionals who work with them, to learn and connect with one another.
PLEASE NOTE: REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS NOW CLOSED
Parenting is best done in a supportive community. For adoptive parents and their children, this is even more important. Kim’s keynote presentation will provide an overview of the supports being built in communities throughout Ontario, explore the importance of a menu of supports that respond to the developmental needs of children and families over time, and offer specific strategies for adoptive families.
Kim Stevens is a program manager at North American Council on Adoptable Children (NACAC), and works on a variety of projects including Community Champions Network post-adoption support in Ontario, AdoptUSKids, and a US federally-funded training grant.
In her 28 years of child welfare work, Kim has provided training and consultation on child welfare, foster care, adoption, parenting, positive youth development, advocacy and leadership, trauma and recovery, and youth permanency issues both nationally and internationally.
Since 2006 Kim has been working in Ontario connecting with parents, youth, professionals, and community members. She has provided training on assessment and preparation, parent leadership development, mentoring programs, adolescent permanency, openness in adoption, trauma and loss, adoption competency, youth advocacy and engagement, building coalitions, and more.
She and her husband, Buddy have six children, four of whom were adopted from the public foster care system.
