Adoption Worker Training Day

AdoptOntario and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption present:

Changing the Trajectory:

Enhancing our Resource to meet the Changing needs of our Children and Families

A one-day training for adoption workers offered in conjunction with the Ministry of Children and Youth's Spring 2017 Adoption Resource Exchange.

Agenda

Keynote: Kim Stevens

Kim Stevens works with the North American Council of Adoptable Children (NACAC) where she is Program Director for Advocates for Families First — a collaboration of US-based parent associations dedicated to the vision that all children and youth should receive supported care in a kinship, foster, or adoptive family when they cannot remain safely at home. Kim also works with NACAC, supported by Jockey Being Family, promoting the Community of Champions Network model of post adoption support that promotes connection of adoptive and kinship families using a community-based peer support model.  She and her husband are the parents of six children; four of whom were adopted out of the US foster care system.

Break

Morning Presentation: Unadoptable is STILL Unacceptable

Learn more about Wendy’s Wonderful Kids (WWK), a signature program of Dave Thomas Foundation.  WWK Recruiters throughout the United States and Canada implement the evidence-based Child Focused Recruitment model that focuses on finding an appropriate, permanent and loving adoptive family for children who are waiting in the child welfare system.

Hear from a panel of Ontario recruiters who will share their experiences and invite discussion of how workers across the province can assist them in helping children find permanent families.

Lunch - On Your Own

Afternoon Presentation: Now What? Supporting families post placement

Dr. Denise Goodman will present a wise and inspiring presentation on accessible tools and strategies adoption workers can offer during the post-placement period (aka – Adoption Probation) to ensure families have the support they need to succeed.

Dr. Denise Goodman is a child welfare training specialist, consultation and a systems reformer who educates parents and professionals across the U.S and Canada on foster care, adoption and kinship care topics.
