Pathways to Permanence 2 is a 24-hour specialized series of classes designed for foster and adoptive parents, kinship caregivers, and guardians who are parenting children who have experienced trauma and loss as a part of their history.

The course provides tools, techniques and information that empower participants to effectively parent their children.

Details: 

The emergence and spread of the COVID-19 virus has rapidly changed the way everyone is operating. Our primary concern is the health and safety of our staff and trainers and everyone who participates in our programs.

As such we have to offer Pathways to Permanence 2: Parenting Children Who Have Experienced Trauma and Loss © through an online platform.

Location: Online via Zoom (The Zoom link will be emailed to registrants closer to the event date).

Time: Mondays; 7:00pm to 9:30pm

Dates: 

  • Session 1: July 6, 2020
  • Session 2: July 13, 2020
  • Session 3: July 20, 2020
  • Session 4: July 27, 2020
  • Session 5: August 10, 2020
  • Session 6: August 17, 2020
  • Session 7: August 24, 2020
  • Session 8: August 31, 2020

  • Laura Banks
    labanks@rogers.com
    Laura is a mental health professional in private practice. She provides counseling, education, advocacy, skill development and service coordination to families in adoption. Laura also sits on several Boards and Committees with the clear intent of assisting children to find permanency and healing in their lives. Laura is an adoptive parent to seven children and has been a Treatment Foster Care parent for over 18 years. She is an experienced trainer to adoptive and foster parents and others.

Who: This training is for parents and caregivers where a placement has already occurred. 

Cost: This course is being offered at NO cost to participants thanks to funding from the Ontario Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.

Technical & set-up requirement: 

  • Laptop or desktop computer with functioning webcam and microphone capabilities.
  • Strong/stable internet connection with a speed of at least 10mbps
  • In order to preserve families' privacy and comfort levels, anyone other than another Pathways participant, should not be in the same room with you while participating in a Pathways Zoom session; this includes children and teens.

Please note, Ontario's PRIDE curriculum is equivalent to The Kinship Center's Pathways to Permanence 1 curriculum.
