Meet Daniel on Giving Tuesday

Date: December 3, 2019 Author: Communications Contract Staff Coordinator Categories: Opportunities to Give

This Giving Tuesday, we want to introduce you to Daniel. A young boy in the foster care system who has special needs and a family that can give him permanency, a family forever.

Daniel and his younger birth siblings came into foster care when it became evident that his original family were not able to take care of them. While families were found for his younger siblings, Daniel’s worker struggled to find a family that had the knowledge and the ability to care for someone with a heart condition.

Given Daniel’s heart condition and birth siblings, Daniel needs a family that is willing to learn about g-tube feeding, keep an open relationship with his siblings and advocate for him in health care and education.

Like all young people who come to a family through adoption he also needs a family who understands trauma and attachment needs and can parent Daniel from this approach.

Daniel’s worker first noticed the Johnsons on the AdoptOntario database (introduced in our last blog) due to their location in Northern Ontario. They live close to Daniel’s birth sibling, have expressed openness to originally family relationship. As a family with an educator and a parent who works from home, they have the flexibility and the knowledge to support Daniel with his health and education needs.

Every day young people like Daniel and the workers that advocate for them rely on the ACO and the AdoptOntario program to prepare and identify families that can meet their unique needs.

Will you support thousands of child and youth in Ontario who need permanency and family?
